First time members and Guests can say hello here.
We just returned from NPMA Nationals in Orlando Florida where We talked to several trainers and handlers. One handler We talked too said he thought NESDCA standards were too hard since they required that dogs accredited under NESDCA standards only alert on Live Bugs or Eggs. He said his dogs would not be able to meet this standard and his clients wanted Bed Bug Dogs to alert on cast skins so they would know where to clean them up and we should lower our standards if we wanted more members.
So what do clients want?
Bed Bug Detection Dogs that alert on Live Bugs so the PCO knows where to treat and can also use the dog to know the Infestation is Controlled.
OR
Bed Bug Detection Dogs that tell you where Cast Off Skins are so you can clean them up.
Consumers please give us your thoughts!!!
Recently Rick Cooper wrote an article for Pest Control Magazine Titled “Are Bed Bug Dogs Up to Snuff” It got me thinking about Termite Sniffing Dogs, which he mentions in the article. I thought we could talk about how Termite Dogs are Up to Snuff and the Benefits of a Termite Detection Dog Team versus just a Human Inpsection.
Bedbugger.com started a blog about NESDCA and what that would mean for the bed bug industry. There was talk that regulating or requiring high standards for K-9 Teams may make the price of bed bug inspections or more specifically k-9 bed bug inspections higher for the consumer. That is a interesting thought and so I thought it worthy to put it to comment.
